Taking It From The Gym To The Street

I love indoor cycling or busting it out on the treadmill. I also can’t resist a well-taught barre class or high intensity circuits. Frankly, anything that makes me push myself or sweat like crazy is my kind of happy hour. But I’m also always trying to fit it in on the go, like most of us are, so I need gear that goes with my lifestyle. When it comes to working out, our clothes have to be equal parts comfortable and stylish. So I’m saying it now–No more baggy, faded cotton t-shirts, ladies! There are so many fantastic fitness brands out there that we can not only be extremely comfortable but we can look amazing while we get our sweat on. Like me, you probably lead a very busy life and fitting exercise in is hard. I often find myself throwing on a dry shirt while running from the workout studio to a meeting. So, I need my gear to serve dual purposes, just like many of you who lead an active lifestyle. Keeping your on the go lifestyle and comfort in mind, here are some of my favorite fitness finds this spring:
Sweaty Betty Flo Yoga Tank ($75)
I love this loose fitting yoga style tank and it’s positive, fun message. It’s designed to keep you cool with its open armholes (you need a bra top under it) and so can be worn both during and after workout because it has a street look. I love the burnout effect and raw edges that give it a contemporary feel. Super added bonus, it is so, soft you won’t want to take it off!
Lululemon Wild Tank ($64)
Lululemon has become a staple in workout gear. They have great gear and every time I go in there are new things, it’s a little dangerous, actually. This tank is one of the really great ones. It has a really nice, draping, open back that shows off the strappy bra underneath. The low armholes keep you cool and there are a wide variety of colors to choose from. I love the thicker strap.
Athleta Cabrillo Sweater ($118)
Athleta has really great workout gear, but they also have great street clothes. This is one of their transition pieces that you can wear after a workout. It’s a sweater made of sheer cashmere and linen in a super-cute, short-sleeve boatneck. The fit is really relaxed and you can pair it with a cami underneath and some capris or shorts and flip flops after a workout.
Nike Air Force 1 Ultra Force Mid Joli ($130)
I’m a huge fan of these old school originals. These kicks are as comfortable as they are fashionable. I have other pairs just for exercise but these are perfect for wearing to spin class before changing into spin shoes, or for walking in my neighborhood. I also like to wear them just after a workout to give my feet a break from my sweaty running shoes—I have them in a similar white version.
Lululemon Bangs Back Headwrap ($22)
I love most headbands by lululemon. They are loose enough to not give you headaches, and tight enough to hold your hair and bangs while also holding your earbuds in while running. Not only that, they look super cool and can be worn wide or folded to be worn narrow. Plus, an added bonus is that if you sweat a lot, you won’t get any in your eyes.
Asics Gel Nimbus 16 Lite Show Running Sneakers ($160)
My Gel Nimbus sneakers are a staple. I wear them for every run and many fitness classes because (sans cycling) they are my favorite shoes to rock for a workout. They also feature glow-in-the-dark cushion so if you do go out for night runs, you won’t be missed. Every year I upgrade to the next version of the Nimbus because they are such a good, solid shoe—especially if you do any running or cross training.
Zara Terez Black Floral Capri ($75)
Carbon 38 sells workout clothes by a bunch of different fitness retailers, one of them being Zara Terez. This pair of floral printed capri leggings are in a cute and light fabric and will dry really quickly. They’re ideal for all kinds of workout classes including cycling or barre and are silky to the touch. I also like the thick waistband because it eliminates the potential for pinching. Some of the workout clothes on Carbon38 can get pretty pricey but generally this brand is usually reasonable and always really edgy and fun.
