Fly Member Spotlight: Linda

Returning to the gym after a move across state lines isn’t easy – returning after a knee injury is even more challenging! Our Fly community uplifts, inspires & teaches us every single day. We want to spotlight an incredibly special member of the Fly Lincoln community, Linda! Linda has had such a powerful journey & is a constant source of joy & leadership, whether she’s on the reformer or on the bike! Here’s a little bit about her routine & the progress Linda has seen returning to the gym after a move, a knee injury & COVID:

How did you get started at Fly?

I was a regular exerciser in my former home of Ann Arbor, MI. My last gym there was similar to Fly in many ways; small, client-focused, great instructors and variety of classes. When I moved to Lincoln, I searched for a new gym and tried two, Fly being one of them. Alex, the first person I met at Fly, sold me on the gym. She was, and remains, one of the best things about Fly.

What’s your current Fly sweat routine?

My current regimen at Fly is a five days a week consisting of five cycle classes, two Pilates classes, two barre, one core and one strength class per week.

Have you observed any changes in your life have you felt since starting at Fly?

When I started at Fly [Lincoln] in Nov’19, I was in pretty good shape from my previous exercise regimen. I was quite active at the downtown Fly but tore my medial meniscus in Jan’20. Exercise thereafter was spotty at best and then COVID hit. When I emerged from both I was not in a good place. I reached out to Fly and began personal training with Jess along with attending (reluctantly) cycle and strength classes. Boy, did I need to do that! I was no longer physically fit, my knees were hurting and I was told I needed joint replacement. With Jess’s help, I began to regain my strength.

What part of your routine do you think has been the most impactful?

Each part of my routine is impactful, I am challenged differently by each instructor. I love watching a “body of steel “spur me on to a new level of fitness as well as reminding me to be grateful for what my body can (still) do. I love the fact that there are no apologies at Fly; the workout is tough and you may not make it through the whole thing but keep trying.

How do you recover post-Fly?

I thank God and my body for allowing me the privilege to work out. Then, I crank the radio and sip strong coffee all the way home.

If you could have a dream theme class, what would it be?

Jess, Jenni, Morgan, McKenzie, Alex, Wendy and Natalie – front and center leading the best ever cycle class followed by a “who knows what” follow-up. Thanks for making me feel so special and welcome at Fly, I love you all and am beyond grateful for what you have done for me! Let’s make my dream class happen!!!!
