Feature: Jenni in Shoutout Arizona

Below is the feature on Fly Founder Dr. Jenni Bruning Brown, Ph.D. shared by Shoutout Arizona shared on August 29, 2022 through their online magazine. See the story as featured online here.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Jenni Bruning Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Jenni, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I firmly believe that the work I do, the choices I make and how I approach my own life will teach my daughters to be strong, independent women. I know that my own mom worked, got her PhD and went on to be really successful not only as a mother but as a businesswoman, and I know that my determination and dedication to my passion is rooted in that experience. I went to law school, but ended up shifting paths to follow my passion. I also hope that my path and experiences will teach all of my kids that if you follow what you love, everything else will fall into place.

What should our readers know about your business?
I think what sets me apart from other fitness studio owners or founders is that I have a deep background in sport and motivational psychology. I earned my PhD from Stanford in Education (Counseling Psychology) and have worked with athletes at all levels from high school to professional. My research in motivation has guided my practice and my life, and led to the opening of Fly Fitness.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For a weeklong trip, I’d take them to every amazing coffee shop in Lincoln. I’d of course, taken them to all the classes we have at Fly–and have them join me in one of my cycle classes. We’d visit the University of Nebraska campus, which is beautiful and has a wonderful art gallery called the Sheldon Museum of Art. Enjoying a few of our best restaurants–including the Oven for Indian food would also be top of list!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My dad has always been a huge supporter of what I do, and is a teacher (professor) by training. With that, he encouraged me to to things that I love, without pressure on what is expected or a “correct” path. I knew that whatever I did, he was always going to back me and support me, but also help me to become the best version of myself that I could.
